متن کاملSurvival, Acid–base Balance, and Gaping Responses of the Asian Oyster Crassostrea Ariakensis and the Eastern Oyster Crassostrea Virginica during Clamped Emersion and Hypoxic Immersion
The eastern oyster Crassostrea virginica has a remarkable ability to withstand low oxygen conditions; however, many of the biochemical mechanisms by which that tolerance is accomplished remain poorly understood. In addition, little is known about hypoxia tolerances and adaptations of the Asian oyster Crassostrea ariakensis. By comparing these closely related species, we may learn more about the...
متن کاملTEM immunocytochemistry of a 48 kDa MW organic matrix phosphoprotein produced in the mantle epithelial cells of the Eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica).
Immunohistochemical TEM of Eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) mantle epithelial cells using a polyclonal antibody to a gel purified 48 kDa MW oyster shell phosphoprotein revealed that it is phosphorylated in the Golgi, packaged into secretory vesicles and subsequently exocytosed across the apical membrane of specialized cells. These phosphoprotein producing cells are concentrated along the ...
متن کاملIsolation of Vibrio cholerae serotype O1 from the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica.
Two strains of Vibrio cholerae serotype O1 Inaba were isolated from eastern oysters, Crassostrea virginica, collected from estuarine waters in Florida during April 1980. The oyster meats and waters from which the oysters were collected had low fecal coliform counts, and the area had no prior evidence of sewage contamination.
متن کاملA galectin of unique domain organization from hemocytes of the Eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) is a receptor for the protistan parasite Perkinsus marinus.
Invertebrates display effective innate immune responses for defense against microbial infection. However, the protozoan parasite Perkinsus marinus causes Dermo disease in the eastern oyster Crassostrea virginica and is responsible for catastrophic damage to shellfisheries and the estuarine environment in North America. The infection mechanisms remain unclear, but it is likely that, while filter...
